Utterli is a cool and easy way to podcast. You set up an account and can get a number to call, and record a podcast to share on a blog or website. I haven’t used it much, but I’m sure there are other useful features.

The newest Google site I’ve discovered. It’s an extension of the Google Reader, but allows you to quickly flip through cool bits of sites. It’s easy to “like” or “share” the stories to show up in your Google profile and Google Buzz. Kind of like Stumbleupon, but you don’t have to go to each site.

Delicious is a social bookmarking site. You can create a profile and share bookmarks.

This is a free site that allows you to post anything you want, essentially creating a blog for all of your cool findings. All you do is email your site to a website, and they reply with your new posterous account so that you can post whatever you like and share with your friends/followers.

This is a free site that allows you to record and then post things on Twitter. It is a web based recording so there is nothing to download, and you simply create screencasts and tweet them, and then your followers see them!

Fishing report– This is an interactive website that allows you to post your reports from the day of fishing before. The reports are all compiled into a data base so all members can read what others have been fishing for and what they have been successful with. The website can also generate radar of where fish are in abundance.

Although ebay is a very common and mainstream website, i thought i would mention it, because ebay also helps you generate exactly what you are looking for…kinda like gifts.com–you can choose your categories and ebay will sort everything by preference..

Lastly, stumbleupon.com is a very entertaining site. You choose the categories that are of interest to you and you can then press “stumble.” When you press stumble, the website looks through your interest and arranges a “playlist” of websites to entertain the interests chosen.

Ning competes with social sites like MySpace and Facebook by appealing to people who want to create their own social networks around specific interests with their own visual design, choice of features and member data. The unique feature of Ning is that anyone can create their own social network for a particular topic or need, catering to specific membership bases.

Fotoflexer is an online photo editing service that gives you almost the same freedoms as Photoshop, but you can edit in your browser. Basically you upload a photo from your computer to the site and get to editing. They have plenty of demos to help you figure out how to do things. 

Three cool services:
http://www.tineye.com – it is a reverse picture search engine. You upload a picture and it tells you all the websites in which the picture is located.

http://www.google.com/buildingmaker – Though it is a lot like sketchup, this one allows you to actually contribute to the google earth project. You choose a building, and then create a 3D model of the building. Google Earth will then expect it and if your building is approved, it is posted on google earth for everyone to see!

http://www.theknot.com – if you are getting married, this website is a lifesaver. It allows you to create checklists and guestlists. The guestlist allow you to see who you’ve sent invitations to and how many people are in a particular part. It also allows you to put in who gave you what and if you have sent them a thank you card yet. It allows you to create a free website for your wedding and is also a place where wedding vendors congregate, making it easy to find anything you want for your wedding!! 

Prezi is a free online presentation tool that can be used similarly to PowerPoint. There are different levels of Prezi that a presenter can use to get more in-depth in his or her presentation. There is also a version that you can buy that has more applications. Prezi.com

Playlist.com is like an online iTunes. Your can create different playlists and all the songs are free. You find a song by searching for either the artist or the song name or both. Songs are found from different places on the web. You can listen to the song before you add it to your playlist, but all the songs are free. You cannot download the songs onto your computer but you can listen to them as long as you have an Internet connection. The playlist is only as mobile as your internet device, but it is a nice alternative to buying songs that you may only want to listen to a few times. 

http://www.digsby.com/ It’s a social application that combines all of your facebook chats and notifications, and myspace, and twitter, and instant messenger, and email, etc. It archives the conversations, has widget abilities, manages space on your computer screen, and only requires logging in once.

Literally one of the best program’s out there. You can get the toolbar or just sign in and start stumbling. Based on your interests stumble upon navigates you to websites, videos, photos, and articles that you probably wouldn’t have found otherwise. It’s like what Shamp uses twitter for except it’s personalized. Start Stumbling!!

Yeah, I know, you have probably heard about Pandora by now, but seriously, this program is amazing. If you haven’t heard by now, Pandora is a free web radio service that molds itself to your musical taste. I have greatly expanded my musical tastes because of this site. 

Google wave is a people can work and communicate live with one another through text, photos, maps, etc.

Ning.com is a website where you can create social websites and join ones that fit your personality and hobbies.

It even has a mobile component that allows you to scan the barcodes of the food you eat to keep track of them more easily.

http://www.twaitter.com/ – This cool service allows people to schedule tweets and send direct messages through Twitter to different groups of followers. Although many people consider Twitter to be an outdated service now, Twaitter makes it more applicable to current social networking demands.

Gumshoo makes eBay searches and purchases more secure. You can filter out junk, get risk alerts based on poor performance of sellers and eliminate fraud.

Wink is a people search engine. You can collect address, phone, email, website, school, work data, etc. You can search by name, location, and interests or any combination of the three. 

Delicious lets you bookmark web sites and online documents and make them easy to share. Whether you want to access your bookmarks from a different computer or share them with your friends, delicious lets you do that. You can even tag each bookmark with several tags so it is easy to find.

Google analytics is a super cool tool that lets you monitor everything about your web site. You can determine how many PEOPLE visited your site, i.e. it will tell you that 1 person visited your site 5 different times rather than telling you that 5 people visited your site, you can see what country people are visiting from, how long they are staying on your site, which pages they are looking at and so much more. For someone who is trying to improve their site based on data collected about the site, this free tool is amazing 

http://prezi.com/ – This Web site is a great alternative to PowerPoint. You can create really cool presentations online, and it gives you a lot more creative liberties than basic slides.
http://www.podiobooks.com/ – This Web site has archives of audio books that you can listen to for free, sort of like a podcast except they are transferred through RSS feeds. You can store them on your computer or put them on an MP3 player.

Google Patents: Before you try to make a cool idea an actual invention, you can go to this specified search engine that sifts through indexed patents registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to find out if someone else beat you to it. The search engine uses optical character recognition (OCR) to sift through patents based on words and terms embedded in the image scans.

Web Services

1. Subversion http://subversion.apache.org/
Subversion is an open source version-control system used in software developement. It allows developers to store, edit, and collaborate on source code. Version-control works by allowing the user to store files and later revise them. Each time a file is revised it is updated with a revision number. This is really common in other pieces of software such as, Google Docs, OpenOffice, and Microsoft Word. As a research assistant, I will be using Subversion to store scripts for a the online database we are creating. Due to the fact that this is my first time scripting, this service will be really beneficial. Anyone in our lab can id my mistakes, or just tweak the script to their liking.

Google Voice is a really neat web service that allows the user to store voicemails and SMS messages online, tranforming them into emails. It works by, allowing the user to choose a Google phone number, based on their a chosen area code. After this it is simple. Any calls, messages, or voicemails sent to this number will be forwarded to any phone number (home, work, or cell) the user places in their account. I have used this tool several times to communicate with my parents when my cell phone stopped working. Rather, than asking to use other people’s phone, I was able to just send them an SMS message online from my Google Voice account.

This service, provided by Google, allows the user to manage and edit photos online.
Picasa beta also allows the user to post photos directly from the application to a Google-
hosted album. Users can view full-screen slideshows, arrange them on a map and use
video playback. Users can also share albums with friends and family as well as follow
their favorite users, and receive notifications when their favorites post new albums.
Unlike Facebook, Picasa can be organized not only by album, but by person too. Picasa
has its own in-house editing program which fixes problems and enhances the quality of
photos.

2. Remember the Milk

For those of you whose lives are ruled by the multitude of things you need to get done
each day or week, this application is for you! You can make as many different lists as
needed, which can be updated by e-mail. Reminders can also be received through email,
SMS, AIM, Google Talk, ICQ or MSN. Other features are included, such as color-coded
priorities, postponing or repeating tasks, unlimited note attachments to any tasks and
printing options. 

http://www.eggwatchers.com/ funny little timer, perfect for timing your hard boiled eggs. You put in information about the game, the site tells you how long it is going to take to cook, and provides you a youtube video for the duration of the cook time.

http://www.midomi.com this site helps you find music you don’t know the name of. Just sing, hum, or say the lyrics/tune and it finds it for you. It’s worked every time I’ve tried it! 

http://www.sociagami.com/ –Allows you to update several of your social networking accounts in one place.

http://www.picnik.com/ –Free photo editing online. Can upgrade for a monthly fee to get more options and styles. 

1. http://www.mint.com – Links up to your bank accounts and credit cards and keeps up with your finances. Gives you graphs of how you spend your money and can help you budget.

2. dailybooth.com – a picture blog service. Automatically updates your family and friends of what’s going on in your life through pictures. 

google wave lets you type and edit a document in real time with someone on another computer. 

TokBox- http://www.tokbox.com/ – an instant messaging video conferencing tool that lets you talk with up to 20 people, since Skype charges if you want to talk to more than one other person.

reQall- http://www.reqall.com/ – automatic voice transcription that lets you speak your message (up to 30 seconds) and can store notes contextually, like a grocery list. You call a special number and reQall automatically emails the notes to you (or other contacts) without having to type. 

The two cool services that I found!

Its a cool online to do list that allows you to manage tasks quickly and easily. It organizes things the way you want to! So if you have a busy schedule and have no way of organizing things properly.

2. Pandora is smart internet radio that builds custom stations just for you. It has helped me to discover several bands/artists that I otherwise never would have known about. I love that I can create a station around a particular artist. 

Web Services

Evernote is a tool that allows you to store your ideas, notes, and other things you want to remember all in one place. You can use it to save text notes, web pages, photos, screenshots, voice memos, etc. all in one place. The site suggests using its services for doing things like planning trips, doing research, or working on projects. The site organizes all of the information for you and makes it searchable, or you can add tags and organize for yourself. The site has both a free and a premium version.

RescueTime is designed to help you track how you spend your time online. It tells you which sites you visit most frequently and reports on trends in your Web habits. It can even block the “distracting” parts of the Web for a specified amount of time. It’s designed to help improve your productivity and keep you from wasting time on sites like Facebook. The Lite version is free, and there is a premium version.

1.whenisgood.net- this site is a god’s send for group projects. It allows everyone to put down when they can meet and then compiles all the information for when is best for everyone.

2.prezi.com- this site creates the most creative powerpoints. No more boring microsoft word powerpoints! 

http://kuler.adobe.com (no www.) -this is a color site! It gives great color combination themes and provides the codes for them to input into adobe programs. you can even create and publish your own color combinations!

http://www.reddit.com/ – a social news website that users can post links to content on the Internet. Other users may then vote the posted links up or down, causing them to become more or less prominent on the reddit home page. Controversial topics are often posted here as well and hilarious photos. It has only been around since 2005.

A free (still in beta testing) service that allows for real-time collaboration for a team. It can possibly take the place of email, because it streamlines communication.

Dropbox ::
Free online storage. Some accounts are paid for, but the free account allows you to do a lot. You can upload files, restrict access to only certain people and collaborate with others.

2.http://developer.yahoo.com/maps/rest/V1/geocode.html: Geocoding is a service that is provided by Yahoo that allows someone to find the specific longitudes and latitudes for a specific address. 

1. http://www.talkster.com Talkster allows you to not only make calls from your computer like Skype but you can also call an actual telephone.

2. http://www.last.fm/ Last.fm allows you to listen to free music through Internet radio. It also shows videos and concerts.
